CROSS POST PLEASE

I'm not sure if anyone has tried to contact me since yesterday, 10/14.
My lindahunt526@yahoo.com account freezes up about once a month and I'm stuck!  Anyway I've set up a new account just for Atlas.  Please please, if you have a good home for him I'll get him to you and the adoption fee is yours. I want to get him out of boarding as soon as possible.  I just want him in a good home.

Here's a new photo of him.  He's with the puppy he speaks of below.  They seem to get on fine.

Hi there?.I?m Atlas. I can?t see you, but I love you already?.you see I?m looking for my forever home.  One of my guardian angels didn?t let me die at the county shelter.  I?m in boarding and it?s not as loud, but I spend my time alone a lot.  I have a little friend that comes by and wants to play?.I think he?s a pup.  They have soooo much energy!  I?m about 7, maybe 8.  I?m a male, fully vetted Mastiff/Boxer mix and I?m blind.  My favorite day is to hurry out first thing in the morning and than settle down with my breakfast.  I must tell you I don?t like any other dog messing with my food.  Sorry?.I?ve had to fend for myself and I can?t see if someone just wants to say hello or take my food.  After eating I like going out for a walk and ?sniffing?.  I do very well off leash.  When you call my name I come right back to your side.  After my walk I settle down with a big bone.  I don?t bark unless I need to go potty.  I would like to go out 3 or 4 times a day, or spend time outside on nice days sitting in the sunshine. I?m o.k. with other dogs as long as they don?t get in my face or jump on me.  Being blind I?m afraid.  If I knew the dogs weren?t going to hurt me we could co-exist.  I don?t play?.I don?t think?..I haven?t had a real ?pets? life for so long I?m not sure what to do?.Won?t you let me spend the rest of my days with you?sitting at your feet and lolling away the days safe and loved.  I love people and I give great kisses?Sincerely,  Atlas

My rescue group rescued a mom dog and her litter of puppies from a high kill shelter in the south.  We believe that they are Feist/Boston Terrier mixes.  They are around 7 pounds at 11 weeks old.  One of the puppies is completely blind in one eye and mostly blind in the other.  He is social, has learned how to get around his foster's house and plays with his siblings.
Here is what his foster mommy had to say about him, today:

Peter has our house and yard memorized and does super good, now, getting around.  He even goes with me when I am leash training others and going through the wooded dog trails, it's about a 2 acre track and he has managed to handle it.  At first he banged into many trees and bushes, but now he rarely does and he even runs at certain points too.  He follows my scent and sound.

Coco is a beautiful, three year old Chocolate Lab. Unfortunately he appears to have Progressive Retinal Atrophy and he has very limited vision. He will eventually go completely blind. He's a very friendly and affectionate dog, loves all people and gets on well with other dogs and cats. He walks well on a leash and has so much to offer. He's been at the shelter a while now and doesn't have much time left. He was owner surrendered and here's what his previous owner wrote about him: (updated 7/28/09)
"Coco was born late March 2006. He is a little shy of people he first meets, but with some patience he will come to you. He is faithful, loyal, loving and intelligent. Has wonderful senses and realized my dad was dying and never left his side for the last six weeks of his life. He loves being outside and is very protective of the ones he loves. I love him very much and hate to part with him, but have no choice." He does everything a sighted dog can do, he just does it closer to you.

Update: Coco is now out of the shelter and in foster care but he still yearns for that very special loving home to call his very own. He is housebroken, walks well on leash, If you have love in your heart for Coco, please contact jenandjerry@hughes.net
